Alta Gracia Apparel
Alta Gracia Apparel is a groundbreaking new clothing line produced at the
first-ever apparel factory in the developing world to pay a living wage
and demonstrate full respect for workersš rights. The factory, located in
the town of Villa Altagracia, Dominican Republic, makes t-shirts and
sweatshirts for Knights Apparel, a US-based clothing company. Duke
University was the first university to publicly commit to purchase Alta
Gracia products and has expressed strong support for the initiative since
its inception. Duke University Stores was the first college store in the
country to order Alta Gracia apparel.
Because of the increased wages and exemplary working conditions, workers
at the Alta Gracia factory have been able to make dramatic improvements in
their lives. Workers can now pay off the debts accumulated over years of
earning poverty wages, and can finally provide a dignified standard of
living for themselves and their families.
Show your Duke pride while buying t-shirts and sweatshirts that improve
the lives of the workers who made them.
The Worker Rights Consortium has verified that this product was sewn at a
factory where workers are paid a living wage and where their workplace
rights are fully respected. For more information, go to:
